It’s time for another Monday morning CSI Insider! Today we are welcoming the newest member to the CSI DMC Texas team, Nathan Shults. Nathan is a sales & creative services coordinator and we couldn’t be more excited about the exceptional programs we know he will create and execute!

What attracted you to the event management world?

I’ve always loved watching “behind the scenes” documentaries, and it’s awesome I now to get to do it full time! The event management world is so full of variety and each day presents challenges and opportunities to learn. Our end product is actually tangible and it is gratifying to see clients smiling and having a great time at an event that you helped bring to life.

How did you first become interested in this industry?

I previously worked for an international auction house curating exhibitions, creating a concept and set design for ad shoots, and performing academic research. It was such an adventure to navigate all the details necessary to sell a rare object. As a Sales & Creative Services Coordinator, I likewise get to help research and create the ideal setting to provide our clients with something of equal value: an exceptional event experience.

What is your favorite part about your job?

I love that each new event opportunity affords us a blank canvas. I get to learn from and do business with so many amazing event specialists, venues, restaurants, excursion groups, and decor providers. They each remind me of the importance of collaboration. The ideas we propose in tandem with the client’s vision makes for a wonderful final product.

What is the best part about the destination you work in?

The DFW area offers it all from cosmopolitan shopping, pro sports, and dining to the legacy of the Old West on our cattle ranches. Texas has a vibrant culture which honors both tradition and innovation, and it’s rewarding to meet and interact with planners who share our passion for hospitality. You’ll never have to sit around and wonder “what’s next?”

What is one of your most proud accomplishments at CSI (or other company) so far?

There are really too many to list–our team is incredibly solutions driven! One of the largest programs we have executed this year had their large (500+ guest) welcome dinner moved last minute from a block party to a ballroom due to rain. Led by our Director of Sales Alisa Caldwell, the team was able to negotiate with the band, caterers, and decor vendors to accommodate the ballroom setting in a matter of only hours. I was so proud that the team was able to do so much in so little time–it was like magic.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I definitely see myself continuing to excel in a creative position. I love to find new inspiration wherever it greets me, and hope to still be designing spaces.

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Nashville, TN but have called Dallas home for the past 5 years

How do you like to spend your weekends?

I like to entertain quite a bit. I’m trying to work my way through a few of Ina Garten’s cookbooks. My friend group never needs a reason to throw a great party.

Are there any causes you are passionate about?

Camp Summit is a nonprofit camp in Paradise, Texas for children and adults with disabilities. I was introduced to the foundation in college and continue to give today. I remember how important summers at Boy Scout camp were to me growing up, and I am thankful I can help provide others with a similar experience.  Activities like horseback riding, archery, swimming, a ropes course, and arts & crafts are adapted for each camper and are provided in a barrier-free camp facility.

Did you guess Tereysa’s favorite travel spot correctly? Fingers crossed! She loves going to St. Maarten with her friends and family whenever possible to soak up the sun.

Now it’s time to guess Nathan’s favorite food? We are getting specific here with the following options: fish tacos with pineapple salsa, mixed berry Froot Loops, or lemon ricotta cookies. Which will it be? Comment on our Instagram @csidmc with with your selection and you will find out the answer on our next CSI Insider posting.
