Get to know our talented team behind our exceptional experiences!  Robert Lutz, Account Manager in our Washington, DC office, is pictured here showing us his love for his clients, partners, and the CSI family…

What is your most memorable event to date?

My most memorable event to date is actually a site visit to Seattle with one of our senior account executives, Gabi Krueger-Winther. We organized a full schedule of venue walk-throughs, meetings with unique local vendors, and city-specific experiences. The client wanted everything to be custom and out-of-the-box so we provided concepts for each venue & essentially built event spaces from the ground up. It was a great opportunity to work with such a seasoned and successful professional like Gabi, and we actually got requested to work on a future program because of the site visit experience.

What’s your favorite part about your job?

I would say my favorite part is being able to create programs for clients in the most creative way, while also organizing all of the relevant program elements. It’s always a great feeling to send a completed custom proposal and then being able to follow through with the client and see the event come to life while collaborating with other CSI team members.

Any advice you would give to someone starting out in the special events industry?

Know in advance that it’s going to take time to learn the industry language and standards in service. Trainings are made available to get you started in the right direction, but you’ll gain most of your knowledge and skillset by fully immersing yourself in events. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Don’t be afraid to step up to the plate. It’s a perfect balance of confidence and humility.

Favorite event venue?

My favorite event venue is Dock 5 at Union Market. It has to be used for the right client, but I love the warehouse/industrial finish and ability to customize the space with décor, as well as its location tucked away in the city.

Best event entertainment you’ve ever seen?

When working on a program with one of our account executives for CSI Texas, we came across a dance group that rappels down the side of a building and dances in sequence with projected lights and sound. We discovered there are many groups throughout the country that provide this service and I hope to use it at an event soon!

If you didn’t work in the Special Events Industry, what would you do?

I was always set on becoming a pediatric neurologist. I’ve always been attracted to careers that have moving parts, and nothing is ever the same. I love working with people and especially kids, so I would have gone to medical school if I didn’t get introduced to the event world.

Where were you born and raised?

I was born in St. Louis and raised in San Antonio, TX.

What’s your dream vacation?

My favorite destination is Croatia and the Greek Isles.

How do you spend your time outside of work?

A busy life is the life for me. Outside of work, I teach spin classes on the side and am heavily involved in the fitness community. I also take day trips to go hiking, go to parks with my pup, and am in the process of writing a book.

Thanks for playing along with Morgan McDonald last month!  Did you guess her lie?  She really did marry her high school sweetheart, and her family was recently on the local news for heroic acts during the hurricanes this fall.  But, Morgan has does not farm seahorses – yet!
